About The Manna Jar

How It Got Started

When friends gather and conversation begins, the Lord can plant seeds of ministry in the heart. TheMannaJar is a small seed that took root and is looking forward to growing into a mighty tree producing much fruit.

Then Moses said, "This is what the Lord has commanded, 'Let an omerful of manna be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'" Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omerful of manna in it, and put it in a sacred place before the Lord to be kept throughout your generations." As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept. Exodus 16:32-34

The summer of 2021 allotted me an opportunity to spend some sweet time of fellowship with my friend Julie. We have been friends since our college days and this was a year of monumental celebration. We both celebrated the birthday of Jubilee. Our time together is always precious and refreshing. We laugh and laugh, occasionally cry together as we share what is on our hearts and what has happened in our lives along the journey, but we always find the joy! On this visit, we were talking about what our Father was whispering to our hearts. Julie began to share a story of a man and his wife who kept a container of small tokens to remind them of what God has done through them, with them, and for them. It wasn't a beautiful container; just a plastic container of tokens that would appear meaningless to most. However, for their family, it was a source of testimony. When they gathered, when the grandkids came over, or when they needed to remember, they went to the jar pulled out a token, and told the story of the faithfulness of God. There is more to this story and my hope is Julie will share it with you, but this story began to stir in me things that were a far-off dream.

Several years ago, I had a dream of a group of friends sitting around a table with my family. Well actually, lounging around a table-the table was low to the ground and we were seated on pillows. The conversation was flowing and the atmosphere was so relaxed. We were breaking bread and telling stories of what God has done. The kids were listening intently to the stories some of our more mature guests were sharing. We all listened as the kids told their stories. It was just a beautiful time of encouragement and faith-building. Inspired by my dream that Easter Thursday, I invited some friends over to have a meal and to share the testimony of what God has done. "Do this in remembrance of me" is what I kept hearing repeated in my mind.

When Julie relayed the "manna jar" story to me, it was the same thought..."Do this in remembrance of me". So just like Aaron, I want to place these stories, testimonies of manna, in a sacred spot for the benefit of future generations so they can remember and faith can be built. Welcome to The Manna Jar!
